Welcome! I’m Cassie.
I’m a mother of two, a wife, a northern California native, and a therapist passionate about supporting moms in what is arguably the messiest and hardest transition a human can endure.
You can read about my credentials on the FAQ page. But I’d like to share a little about me and my approach, and my passion for working with moms.
I always knew I wanted to be a mother. I did not always know what that meant. (Hell, I still don’t always know what that means!) But when I first became a mother in 2019, I quickly realized the vulnerable rawness inherent in the experience of matrescence. That’s right, there’s a word for “becoming a mother,” and it’s derived from adolescence, another time of intense physiological, hormonal, and socioemotional change. In my book, matrescence is no less painful, no less awkward, but MUCH less talked about.
Centering
I was lucky enough to be part of a midwife-led pregnancy group called Centering during my first pregnancy, which gave me a community whose value cannot be overstated. Forming deep connections with a group of parents-to-be from all walks of life showed me how unique each experience of matrescence is, while uncovering some universal truths. I dedicated my graduate school research to learning more about matrescence, and found (surprise!) it is woefully under-researched. This research, along with my own therapy, and the solidarity provided by my Centering community, helped me understand the undoing I was experiencing.
Approach
I bring the same approach to my work as a therapist as I do to life: I believe in humor, curiosity, compassion, and balance. My work is client-centered, with the understanding that each client’s values and goals are unique. I help you untangle your thoughts, your priorities, and strive to provide a place where you feel truly seen and heard. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and you’ll learn a lot about yourself along the way. My goal is to help you unfold, so you can come home to yourself in a balanced, sustainable, and fulfilling way. I also help you separate the “shoulds” from your actual desires and needs (in my opinion, we can throw those societally driven “shoulds” right out the window!).
